bishounen, bishounen
nothing in yamabuki is prettier than him. admit it.
Yamabuki uniform, Yamabuki tennis uniform
YAMABUKI SCHOOL UNIFORM Yamabuki's uniform really stands out from everyone else's, and I don't have any good knowledge about the Japanese school fuku, but it does follow the same tradition as the original black that is commonly used. Yamabuki seems to wear this uniform all year around. It's what in the picture [original black], only white bordered with blue down the middle . To me, it's sort of strange, since you'd think that the border would actually be green since the tennis club uniform is green. And wouldn't it get a little hot under there in the summer time? I'd hope that they're able to *at least* take that off after school! Don't want Sengoku getting heatstroke!!
YAMABUKI TENNIS UNIFORM I know that the reference picture of Sengoku delightfully jumping off a roof isn't exactly ... normal, but for the moment it's the only good reference I have of the green uniform. Yamabuki stands out completely among the rival teams because of this forest green, and even better, the yellow stripes contrast well. The collar is quite different from a normal tennis uniform since it zips down, but that only adds to making Yamabuki even more unique. Like all the other teams, Yamabuki wears short white shorts. (The school name, Yamabukichuu, is written across the chest; which the animators fail to add, but in the manga it's almost always drawn in)
OTHER TIDBITS ABOUT APPEARANCE It's rare we see any non-Seigaku player outside of his uniform and/or school uniform. The only time you'll ever see Sengoku and other rival players in casual outfits are in bromides (check the gallery to see), which don't really give you much of an idea as to how fashionable anyone is since it's just pure fanservice. Sengoku sure isn't a color-mismatch like his twin Saeki Kojirou (Rokkaku), but his eye color is different in the anime and manga. The anime says it's this beautiful oceanic shade of blue, but the manga dictates it as caramel-like brown. Does it matter? Not as much, but most fans like to agree that blue works best in contrast to that outrageous mop of hair!
One thing i've also pegged Sengoku all over the place about is his hair. It's.. uh, different. It's definitely typical anime bishounen hair, but I've always found myself amused by it. Fans like to interpret it (at least, in Japan) as a birds' nest since the twirl at the top of his head is sort of random and doesn't exactly flow like the rest of his hair (which, by the way, is rather choppy). So, I conclude that the twirl on his head plus the hue of his bright orange hair is what makes him truly stand out. For a better look at the twirl:
Notice, it's always pointing to the right. Never points to the left.
LUCK OF THE IRISH Yes, I think Sengoku is based off something irish. I don't know what it is exactly -- other than the flag -- but the fact he recites, "Lucky!" and wears green, it's just very reminiscent of leprechauns, lucky charms cereal, and St. Patrick's Day. If you're Irish, please, don't feel offended. I know nothing of the culture, so it's sort of weird for me to say "I think Sengoku is irish!" But the only solid proof I have to this:
IS ORANGE, WHITE AND GREEN NOT THE IRISH FLAG?!
Sengoku's color scheme = inspired by the Irish flag?! Yes, yes. I think so.
